My reaction to the article was “what is going on with Barnes & Noble?”
.
So, I decided to call the nearest Barnes & Noble store in town to check if the “free Nook offer” was on the level. I spoke with the Store Manager about the story I had just read on the internet. I filled him in on the details about the free Nook giveaway in New York, and added that Barnes & Noble was planning to do the same Nook giveaway across all their store branches.
.
The Barnes & Noble Store Manager immediately said the article I read is not true. He then asked me where I read it. I told him it was posted on the Onion website. He told me the Onion is a comedic group and that their store even sells some of their books in their comedy section.
.
I then told the store manager, “It sounds like a farce,” and he said, “Absolutely.” Nothing like a bit of fake news I guess.
Well, since I was a little inquisitive today, I learned something I really already knew – if it sounds “too good to be true,” it’s probably “too good to be true.”
