Jean Michael Jarre is a French composer, performer and music producer. Jarre is a pioneer and innovator of electronic and ambient music. He has sold over 80 million albums in his 40 year career. Jarre is the son of acclaimed film composer Maurice Jarre.
Along with his recordings, Jarre is well-known for staging spectacular outdoor concerts of his music, which feature lights, laser displays, and fireworks. Several of his albums have been released to coincide with large-scale outdoor events, and he is now perhaps as well-known as a performer as a musician.
In 1979 Jarre performed to a record-breaking audience of more than a million people at the Place de la Concorde, in Paris, a record Jarre has since broken three times — these huge concerts made the Guinness Book of Records for their massive audiences of several million folks.
Jarre’s groundbreaking electronic music put him in the same category as Vangelis, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, and Isao Tomita.
