Android M, the next version of Android, was unveiled at Google I/O 2015 a couple weeks ago. Google made a point of noting that Android M’s primary purpose is to polish the sweeping changes introduced in Android Lollipop last year, and to provide “thousands of bug fixes.” However, Android M comes with a long list of significant improvements and entirely new features. Android M Developer Preview is available now, with the main release date likely in September.
Some key new Android M features include Android Pay, Google Now on Tap, smarter power management with Doze, and customizable app permissions. Many articles focusing on various Android M features have been written, but don’t miss Phandroid’s recently published Everything new in Android M (includes helpful videos), which gives you a one stop comprehensive list of all the changes in Android M, and highlights of the 18 most important.
